-On3 did a nice piece on Jake Dickert’s success with the Demon Deacons, pointing out that they are 6-1 so far this year (after winning 9 games the previous year)…despite having one of the lowest reported payrolls for players in college football ($13 million)…and they just beat Louisville whose payroll is reported to be around $25 million -Dickert has built his roster predominantly through the portal, identifying undervalued or underused talent---including Gio Lopez, who has been outstanding this year after a rough year at North Carolina. -To absolutely no one’s surprise, Mike Locksley is no longer that head coach at Maryland---we all thought he’d probably be out on Sunday or Monday following the loss to Rutgers, but he was fired on a Wednesday morning of a bye week -The Maryland Fade had become a staple of the show, and maybe with a new coach it won’t be that way anymore---Locksley ends his tenure with the Terps with a 39-54 record---and what really hurts is ending last season on an 8-game losing streak and bringing him back, while Bob Chesney at nearby James Madison went across the country to have immediate success at UCLA…could have been the guy at Maryland! The interim head coach is Aazaar Abdul-Rahim for the rest of the year…Locksley is owed $9.75 million. -Under Matt Rhule, Nebraska is 4-16 as a program once they have hit the 5-win mark. In 2023, they started and finished 5-7. In both 2024 and 2025, they started 5-1 and finished 7-6. And this year, they began 5-0 and now sit at 5-2 with the bye weekend here -The combined record of the teams they beat in getting to 5 wins was 79-106….the combined record of the teams they played in their 4-16 stretch is 121-73…when the going gets tough, Nebraska hasn’t kept up…and that is rightful criticism and doubt for the Rhule Era… Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-There are many programs---including our neighbors to the east---who thrive in close games and seem to never lose. Nebraska actually was that way as recent as the Bo Pelini era, and have been mostly bad at it the last 12 years for the most part -Nebraska’s talent level seems good enough this year to win close games, so is it a coaching issue? Psychology? Something deeper that is mental? Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-This fanbase is so scorned for close calls in the Mike Riley, Scott Frost and Matt Rhule eras and the last 2 games vs. Indiana are just more of the same…and you wonder how those results affect the staff and players as well -An 11-point lead vs. Indiana was blown in the 4 th quarter (20-17 loss) and an 8 point lead vs. a struggling Oregon offense was blown (17-14 loss) as Husker fans are left to think “what if” they just happened to win one or both of these winnable games… Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-It looked bleak for the Hoosiers after the Buckeyes took a 19-7 lead…but they responded like they did at Nebraska and cut it to 19-15, and then drove it with a chance to win, where it looked like they did… -Nick Marsh was WIDE OPEN on a 4 th down play and caught the ball…but lost where he was at on the field and was out of bounds, leading to the win for the Buckeyes…in a game where they lost starting QB Julian Sayin for a few weeks, per Ryan Day Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

-It was about the worst way you could possibly see this game going---a 4 th quarter lead for Nebraska leading to Dylan Raiola being inserted into the game for an ineffective Brock Thomas—and 2 long scoring drives to end the game bring complete and total misery for Husker fans -It’s become all too common for Husker fans for finding ways to lose---and this one hurts a ton for staying up until 2am, in a tough road environment, vs. your former QB….and it was predictable.
